Chism Trail-2010

Troop 383- Jake Blazak- Acting Historian

Sunday June 20th

When we got to Sid Richardson Scout Ranch, we had to wait to check in and some people played football during the wait. After, we got checked in those who had not token the swim text took it. Then base camp got set up and the Chism Trail group went to set up there camp. When we got our tents, set up we ate burgers and hot dogs with beans and potato salad. After, dinner we went to a kind of opening ceremony showing all of the different events they had by having the staff show off their events. For the rest of the day we just stayed in camp.

Monday June 21st

Our first morning we woke up and went to breakfast to eat danishes, nutrigrain bars, and cereal. We were given a tote bucket with our lunches in it for the next three days. Then we sent Mr. West to training for driving the boat. When Mr. West came back with the boat we drove to the marina to go tubing our first water sport. After, tubing we went back to our camp and went to covert ops at the same area as we stayed the night before. We ate MREs for dinner. We had to wait for it to get dark for us to do our event. When it got dark, we started covert ops. We got our gear that was two night vision goggles, a gps, and a two-way radio. We had to find a black box that shot out of our pilot’s helicopter with the coordinates of our pilot in it. We brought that box back to base and then we had to find two payloads. A lot of us got spear grass and cactus needles in our feet and scratches on our legs from running around. We all got back to camp around 12 o’clock.

Tuesday June 22nd

We woke up and took down camp. We had oatmeal for breakfast. We took our gear to Calvary our next event, so that our gear wouldn’t get wet on the boat. For our water sport, we went sailing but not for long because we decided sailing would not be fun to do for a whole four hours. We sailed a while and went swimming for the remainder of the time we had until we had to go to Calvary. At Calvary for dinner, they gave us chili and peaches. The staff split us up into two groups because they need some people in infantry and some in artillery. Both the infantry and artillery drilled and learned how to use the guns. After we were done with that we all decided to go down to base camp to say hey to the base campers and also go to the trading post. We slept on the grass that night with a canvas tent over our heads all except for our scoutmaster who decided it was more comfortable on a table.

Wednesday June 23rd

The staff said we were supposed to wake up at seven but we did not eat breakfast that early because the staff did not wake up at seven. We had eggs and bacon for breakfast. We left Calvary and took our gear to Area 51. We set up camp at Area 51. We then went to go to dinner. We cooked ourselves a silver turtle which is a hamburger patty with onions, potatoes, carrot, cabbage, and cucumbers. You wrap all of those ingredients in foil and set it on coals. After, dinner the staff took us to a trailer where we geared up with paintball guns. We walked through a course in a line shooting at lit up targets. We were the first group so we could go to sleep early.

Thursday June 24th

In the morning, we had green pancakes that the staff mixed and we flipped over coals. We dropped our stuff off at highland games. We had wind surfing scheduled as a water sport but since there was no wind we just reported to the sailing base and went off to go swim. We found a nice place where there were rocks to jump off into the water. First, we checked how deep it was where we were jumping. We went to highland games to go set up our camp but it started raining and every ones tents got wet except for the adults and Blaine, Michael, and Tres’s tent because they were not setting up there tent when it started raining and they got a tarp over their gear. Since it was raining, we could not practice for the highland games because it would be dangerous to throw heavy stuff while it was slippery so the staff just explained what we were supposed to do in the morning. We just sat around, talked, and played the guitar until we decided to go to sleep.

Friday June 25th

At highland games, they gave us oatmeal and nutrigrain bars for breakfast. We competed in the highland games and also ate lunch there out of our tote basket which we usually had things like crackers, summer sausage, tuna, cheese, and cookies. We dropped off our gear at the Viking outpost. We went to the blob for our watersport. Then we went to the Viking outpost where we battled with padded swords and shields. We had a great dinner of ham, steak, some kind of stew, and something made with turnips. We learned about the history of the Vikings from the staff. We slept for our last night at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch.

Saturday June 26th

In the morning, we saw horses that the staff told us about the day before. For breakfast, we had a ham and cheese gruel and apple gruel. We sailed and rowed on an authentic Viking ship. After the ride on the Viking ship, we had an epic battle. We left the Viking outpost to go and pack all of our things off the boat and onto the trucks to leave and go home.
